IRT’s strategic site servicing the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong is encumbered by old building stock. AEJ were engaged to prepare a master plan to assess the overall development potential.

The existing development had limited access from a residential side street and the site is also constrained by a heritage-classified church. This was seen as an opportunity to create a new entrance to the site, which focused on the historic church and utilised existing traffic lights to facilitate direct vehicular access from the highway.
With the public address and vehicular circulation resolved, consideration was given to extending the existing high care facility resulting in 150 beds and providing 44 new independent living units to the perimeter. The master plan ensures efficient staff movement while residents benefit from generous solar access.
