2020 – Our Year
In Review

by Margie
It has been a year like no other for all of us.  One that not only presented the usual challenges but ushered in, perhaps accelerated, the trends that had been otherwise slowly reshaping modern life. Of course I refer to the big events of 2020 that impacted Edmiston Jones as they did everyone else; the transition to working from home in its various forms, the now ubiquitous Zoom meeting, the cashless society, the rise of the QR Code, the list goes on.  The effects of this year have irrevocably changed our approach to how we work, live and play.   It seems a long time ago now, particularly as we enter another summer holiday season, that bushfires brought to our region scars only now slowly healing.  Edmiston Jones is proud to have done its bit where it could with pro bono work assisting local community groups and providing advice on the rebuilding process to effected residents.  Our Batemans Bay office even became temporary accommodation at the height of the firestorm. Professionally, 2020 proudly marks the completion of some significant projects including Wollongong’s ParQ on Flinders with residents scheduled to move in before Christmas.  Stage 1 of IRT’s Henry Brooks Estate at Kanahooka similarly awaits its final residents, with Stage 2 under construction and Stages 3 & 4 in the pipeline.  Elsewhere the team continues to be involved in residential, education and health projects, contributing to the delivery of necessary facilities designed to benefit the community. Reflective of our inherent concern with the sustainability of the environment, Edmiston Jones joined Architects Declare and will be implementing from 2021 a range of measures to become carbon neutral.  Our experience is, once the decision is taken, the positives flow through to the daily life of the office in areas such as the elimination of paper use, the embrace of technology and emphasis on a healthy work environment. So, 2020 has been a formative year marked by remarkable resilience and adaptability that, as a community, we can be proud to have come out the other side of.  There is reason to be positive and excited for what awaits in 2021. From all of us at Edmiston Jones we’d like to wish you, your team and families the best for the festive season.  We look forward to reconnecting with you once again in the new year. Graham
