As part of BlueScope Steel’s revitalisation of the No. 6 Blast Furnace, Edmiston Jones designed the new Slag Handling facilities, including the I-106 Switchroom, Control Room and dedicated transformer bays. Independent from the main furnace operations, the facility underpins reliable plant power distribution and area control—critical infrastructure within a high-performance industrial environment. 

Our team worked closely with structural, civil and services engineers to coordinate complex equipment requirements, resolve operational interfaces and deliver robust, fit-for-purpose outcomes. Material selection and detailing respond to the demanding coastal context of Port Kembla, ensuring durability and long-term performance. 

Located within one of Australia’s leading integrated steelworks, the project strengthens operational resilience and supports the ongoing production of flat steel products for domestic and international markets.
