Desert Rose: Industry Breakfast

by Margie
Many of you have shared this blog over the years (thank you!) and will have heard about the Solar Decathlon, an international challenge to design and build a net-zero energy house. Winning the competition with the University of Wollongong in China was a major highlight for Edmiston Jones in 2014. We have continued to work with UOW‘s Sustainable Building Research Centre mentoring students as they prepare for this year’s competition in Dubai. Team UOW working with Edmiston Jones in our Wollongong studio. Hoping to channel the success of the previous entry, The Illawarra Flame, the UOW entry in the 2018 Solar Decathlon is called The Desert Rose. The house is an innovative, energy efficient home designed with the changing needs of the ageing population in mind and, in particular, catering for a resident with dementia. The Desert Rose seeks to change the way the world views sustainable housing by building a home that is architecturally inspiring, affordable and adaptive to a person’s needs as they continue to age - A House for Life. You will see on the Team UOW website that their mission is to encourage a practical collaboration between students and industry. To this end, there is an opportunity to attend an exclusive breakfast event as Team UOW reveals the project to industry partners. You can take a guided tour of the finished house with one of the team leaders and hear insights from international experts at Daikin along with world-class researchers. The social and environmental impact of these new technologies on society will be discussed. The breakfast, catered by Culinarius, will feature lucky door prizes including a double pass to see Xavier Rudd in Wollongong and Team UOW merchandise. Free parking is available. WHEN:      THURSDAY 19 JULY 2018, 7:30AM WHERE:   UOW INNOVATION CAMPUS, SQUIRES WAY, NORTH WOLLONGONG. COST:       $30.00 +GST REGISTER HERE
