Established in 1981, Big Fat Smile is a not-for-profit, community-owned leader in child education, care, recreation, cultural, and inclusion services across NSW and the ACT. As one of the region’s largest providers, Big Fat Smile sought an innovative approach to expand access to high-quality childcare within Shellharbour Square.

Edmiston Jones worked closely with the client as a trusted advisor, shaping the project from concept to completion. Our team developed a vibrant and engaging interior that fosters creativity, learning, and play for children and families, while navigating complex requirements including landlord negotiations, Development Application approvals, compliance with NSW Childcare Standards, cost planning, and tender documentation. We also supported the fit-out contractor to ensure the design vision was fully realized.

At 1,850 m², the facility provides 80 much-needed childcare places, demonstrating how thoughtful design, technical expertise, and collaborative guidance can deliver a compelling, commercially viable childcare environment within a larger development.
