Journal St. Affordable Housing
Completed in 2021, this two-storey affordable housing development provides six studio apartments for single women aged over 50.
Light and airy units, orientated to the north, have their own private outdoor spaces with associated parking and communal facilities. The Solution / Outcome
Situated next to a heritage listed cottage, it was important that this new development blended in well with existing surroundings while considering the future context of a street so close to the town centre. With contemporary metal cladding and other complementary, durable materials, the design balanced existing site constraints such the neighbouring heritage item and existing trees, in order to minimise the impact on the local environment.
A great, all-round result was achieved, especially for the occupants as well as our client, the housing provider. This completed development makes an incremental contribution to address the dire affordable housing shortage in our region.
